This project adds new penthouses onto a building in London’s Dalston, an area successfully attracting high levels of investment and regeneration.
The site is bordered by a railway line, a narrow street, a number of 19th Century warehouses and a hodgepotch of residential apartments that have evolved over time from the derelict buildings along Kingsland Road. A key to the design of the building has been to make some sense of the built fabric.
Douglas and King used our BIM software to inform the layout of the new building. 3D modelling from an early stage allowed us to minimise the impact of the building as viewed from street level, respect the rights to light of neighbouring properties and to maximise the orientation of the new building to take maximum benefit of daylight and restricted views.
Planning was granted in June 2014 and construction commenced in November.
